Where was Adam?

Using Mark Johnson notes.

The Garden

Genesis 2:8-9 (KJV)
8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

    -Notice 3 kinds of trees:

Fruit trees for food.
Tree of Life.
Tree of Knowledge—of good and evil.

Genesis 2:15 (KJV)
15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

-He was created outside the Garden.

-Now he is put into the Garden.

-AND gives him a job (vocation).

God’s Command to Adam

Genesis 2:16-17 (KJV)
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Notice that Eve doesn’t even exist yet.

-Adam is told that he could eat of ALL the trees but one.

-There would be NO DEATH unless he ate of that 1 tree.

The making of woman and institution of marriage:

Genesis 2:21-25 (KJV)
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

    -Naked but not ashamed.

    -Leave father and mother.

    -Become one flesh.

The 1st Deception!

Genesis 3:1-5 (KJV)
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

-The snake was just one of many “beasts of the field.”

-Satan went into the snake (manifested as a snake).

--Was the snake this subtil on it’s own?

--Snakes don’t speak as far as we know, unless…?

So Satan speaks to Eve in v.1

    Genesis 3:1 (NKJV)
1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?"

Genesis 3:1 (TLB)
1 The serpent was the craftiest of all the creatures the Lord God had made. So the serpent came to the woman. "Really?" he asked. "None of the fruit in the garden? God says you mustn’t eat any of it?"

Did you ever notice anything unusual in verse 3?

-There is an UNTRUTH in the verse!

-God never said anything about touching it.

Let’s go back a bit.

-God only told Adam about the trees.

-Adam must have told Even about the trees.

        --Somehow the communication got twisted.

            ---Who could have caused that!

Let’s try another version of verse 4-5.

    -Genesis 3:4-5 (TLB)
4 "That’s a lie!" the serpent hissed. "You’ll not die!
5 God knows very well that the instant you eat it you will become like him, for your eyes will be opened—you will be able to distinguish good from evil!"

Now we come to a very key point.

    Genesis 3:6 (KJV)
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

--Did you catch the significance here?

Where was Adam when Eve was being deceived?

    -Was he fishing?

-In the garage with his toys?

-Maybe he was over on the other side of the Garden!

NO, he was WITH HER!

-Let’s see, was he not paying attention?

-Doesn’t he even see the problem?

    -IS HE AFRAID…to correct her?

-He is certainly not protecting her!

Have you ever heard it said, “my husband just doesn’t get it!”

-Obviously, Adam doesn’t get it.

-He is guilty of being “passive”, rather than taking his “authority.”

So I present to you the problem:

-Too many men are tormented by a “spirit of passivity.”

-Calling it a spirit is less frightening to most men.

--The raw truth is that it is a demonic spirit.

--It has intelligence, and an order to destroy you.

--Destroying your marriage is just part of the deal.

-It will get the rest of you if it can.

So, what to do about the problem.
