Evil Spirit from God

An Evil Spirit from the Lord?

There are a few scriptures that seem troubling.  A good example is Duet 28:35.

“The LORD shall smite thee in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore botch that cannot be healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head”.

I always wondered how or why the lord would do such a thing to somebody.  If He created us and wants the best for us, why would He do such a thing?

I got the best explanation from Kenneth Hagin Sr.’s book, “Redeemed from the Curse of the Law”.  In his book he mentions Dr. Robert Young, one of many Hebrew scholars, and author of Young’s Greek and Hebrew concordance.

-Dr. Young explains that the Old Testament was not written in the English Language.  The Hebrew language did not have the “permissive tense” for their verbs, and therefore used the “causative tense”.

-Dr. Young said that it should have been translated, “the lord would allow you to be smitten.”

Another verse that shows a similar dilemma is I Sam 16:14.

“But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him”.

-An evil spirit cannot come from the Lord.

-If evil spirits come from the Lord, we have no right to resist them.

-No, what only makes sense here is that The Lord “permitted an evil spirit” to trouble Saul.

Well, I don’t know if that helps you—but it helps me.  It satisfies me that God would not put such things on us, but that He does allow them to happen.  If we sow sin we will reap evil.
